The Modelica Association
and the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld
organize the 6th International Modelica Conference.
It will take place
March 3rd - 4th, 2008
at the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld, Germany.
Modelica is a freely available, object-oriented language for convenient and efficient modeling and simulation of complex, multi-domain physical systems described by ordinary differential and algebraic equations. The comprehensive Modelica Standard Library has been utilized in demanding industrial applications, including full vehicle dynamics, power systems, robotics, hardware-in-the-loop simulations and embedded control systems with nonlinear Modelica models.
The Modelica conference will bring together people interested in Modelica, Modelica language designers, Modelica tool vendors and Modelica library developers. It provides Modelica users the opportunity to stay informed about the latest language and library developments and to get in touch with people working on similar modeling problems. The conference is planned for about 300 participants and will cover topics such as the following:
- Multi-engineering modeling and simulation with Modelica
- Free and commercial Modelica libraries
(mechanics, electrical, hydraulics, thermal, fluid, media, chemical, building, automotive, aircraft, ...) - Automotive applications
- Thermodynamic systems applications
- Other industrial applications, such as electric drives, power systems, robotics, aerospace ...
- Hardware-in-the-loop simulation and embedded control systems
- Modelica modeling, simulation and design tools
- Symbolic algorithms for model transformations
- Modelica in other application areas (mathematical programming, databases etc.)
- Modelica for teaching and education
In addition, the conference will include:
- Modelica tutorials for different levels of modeling experience
- Poster session
- Modelica Award for the 2 best free Modelica libraries (500 + 250 Euro)
- Users group meetings
- Vendor's presentations of commercial and free Modelica tools
The registration page and accommodation/traveling information will be available soon.

Call for Libraries:
You are encouraged to submit a free Modelica application library
in Modelica source code form. The best two application libraries
will get an award of 500 and 250 Euro. The library should be sent
to the program chair (modelica2008@modelica.org).
With the exception of the members of the Modelica Association and their respective organizations,
everyone can apply for this award.
Libraries are evaluated according to the following criteria:
- How useful is the library for the Modelica community, especially for industrial applications?
- Basic design principle of the library (e.g. physical components are modeled in a declarative way and there are no un-physical restrictions how components can be connected together).
- Comprehension of the library (small or large library, examples).
- Usage of the library (component documentation, users guide, parameter menus, etc.).
Accepted libraries will be included on the conference CD-ROM.
Important dates: | Deadline: |
Library submission | Monday, November 5th, 2007 |
Acceptance notification | Monday, November 26th, 2007 |
Final library submission | Monday, January 14th, 2008 |
Library award ceremony | Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 |

Call for Exhibitors:
During the conference developers and vendors have the chance to present their Modelica-related products and services, like:
- Modeling, simulation and design tools
- Modelica libraries
- Consulting and engineering with Modelica
Decision about the acceptance of exhibitors will be based upon Modelica relation of products and/or services and on the time of application.
Important dates: | Deadline: |
Exhibitors application | Monday, November 5th, 2007 |
Exhibitors notification | Monday, November 26th, 2007 |
Conference | Monday, March 3rd - Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 |

Call for Tutorials:
At the Modelica conference, several tutorials will take place in parallel on Monday, March 3rd, in the morning. A tutorial will last for about 3 hours and includes usually a "hands-on-experience" session with a Modelica simulation tool (participants are expected to have a notebook; the presenter will provide the Modelica simulation tool). Tutorials are free for the participants. Hand-outs of the presenter can be printed by the Modelica conference organizers.
Since only a limited number of tutorials can be held in parallel (up to 5), please contact us as soon as possible at
modelica2008@modelica.org.
Decision about the acceptance of tutorials will be based upon
Modelica relation of content and on the time of application.
Important dates: | Deadline: |
Tutorial application | Monday, September 10th, 2007 |
Tutorial notification | Monday, September 24th, 2007 |
Conference | Monday, March 3rd - Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 |
